Ever wonder how the honey bear got its name? There are actually 2 different species of honey bear, both of which have a chevron- or
crescent-shaped patch of light-colored fur on their upper chests, which
probably accounts for their sharing this name.

(1928). Illustrated by E. H. Shepard, the character Winnie-the-Pooh was named
after a teddy bear owned by Milne’s son, Christopher Robin Milne, who was the basis for the character Christopher
Robin.
In 1961, the family licensed the rights to Walt Disney productions who released
numerous animated productions starring Winnie the Pooh that include television
series and full feature movies. Pooh also appears at Walt Disney Parks and
Resorts as a meet-able child friendly character.
Pooh-related merchandise has been reported to bring the Walt Disney Company
approximately 1 billion dollars a year … now that is sweet!
No one has made more money from stuffed honey bears than the Vermont Teddy Bear
Company, personalizing bears for your sweetie-pie since 1981. One of the largest producers of teddy bears and the largest seller of teddy
bears by mail order and Internet, the company handcrafts each of its bears and
produces almost 500,000 bears
each year.
In 2005, the company launched a new sister company, Gift Bag Boutique, which
offers handbags and purses along with many make-up accessories. Along with
PajamaGram, which sells gift pajamas, and TastyGram, which offers gourmet food
gifts, the creation of this sister company brought the total number of
companies under the Vermont Teddy Bear umbrella to five. Now that’s a lot of money, honey!

("I'm smarter than the average
bear!"), although he often overestimates his own cleverness. Yogi boasts a most
distinguished career and has been featured in comic books, cartoons, video
games, feature length movies, television cartoons and shows, DVD’s, theme parks and restaurants.

The Sun Bear, found primarily in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia
stands approximately 4 ft tall, making it the smallest member in the bear
family. Despite its small size, the Sun Bear possesses a long, slender tongue,
ranging from 8 to 10 inches in length which the bear uses to extract honey from
beehives. Now we know where the inspiration for Pooh Bear comes from.
The Sloth Bear also known as the Lip Bear, is native to the lowland forests of
India and Pakistan and also has a fondness for honey causing it to be nicknamed
the Honey Bear. It is not unusual for a Sloth Bear to scale an occasional tree
to knock down a bee honeycomb, which it will then enjoy on the ground below.

Smokey Bear's message "Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires" was
created in 1944 by the Ad Council. In a recent study, 95% of those surveyed
could finish the sentence when given the first words. I’d say that was a successfully packaged Honey bear ad campaign.
And who could forget Hanna-Barbera’s Yogi Bear, who appears in animated cartoons. Debuting in 1958 as a supporting character in The Huckleberry Hound

Show, he was the first break-out
character created by Hanna-Barbera Studios, and was eventually more popular
than Huckleberry Hound! Yogi Bear is well-known for a variety of different catch phrases, including his
pet name for picnic baskets
("pic-a-nic baskets") and his favorite self-promotion

The most famous honey bear is of course Winnie-the-Pooh, a fictional bear
created by A. A. Milne. The first collection of stories about the character was
the book Winnie-the-Pooh (1926), and this was followed by The House at Pooh
Corner
